The KL Monorail is an intracity public transit system which links many key destinations within the Kuala Lumpur (KL) city area. It passes several major hotels in the city and serves KL’s central commercial, employment, hotel and shopping districts. The 8.6 kilometers KL Monorail system stretches from KL Sentral in Brickfields and ends at Titiwangsa Terminal in Jalan Tun Razak via the Golden Triangle (central business district) of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. The monorail operations began on 31 August 2003. The KL Monorail system was taken over by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana), a fully owned government company under the Ministry of Finance, on 19 December 2007. The KL Monorail consists of 11 elevated stations spaced between 0.45 to 1.1 kilometers apart. It is currently capable of handling up to 3,416 passengers per hour per direction (pphpd), operating at 5 minutes headway with ten (10) 2-car trains in operations. |
